Clear Profit provides a timely source of news and discussion for investors interested in performance missed by traditional accounting. Typically they might be interested in businesses’ approach to the environment and society, or their governance.
It launched in July 2002, pioneering the field, building an influential readership and hosting a series of successful events. The global economic crisis of 2008 then offered an opportunity to consider the next step.
Much changed as a result of the economic upheaval. But the challenge of finding ways to allocate capital in ways which meet society’s long-term needs is the same as ever, and solution just as elusive.
Social media now offers new ways to explore facts and arguments. Clear Profit will make the most of these, while minimising the downsides, such as noise and overload. And it will remain committed to traditional benchmarks for journalism.
It is edited and managed by Phil Cain (pictured), His eclectic output has been featured by the Financial Times, Economist, BBC Online, BBC World Service, Al Jazeera, Observer, Telegraph and Wall Street Journal.
In between-times he has written a book called Alcohol Companion, which surveys current scientific knowledge and systematic thinking to explores some of the many complexities and conundrums of alcohol consumption. ■
